I poured a quick cup of coffee, grabbed my laptop, and greeted Christa to open the store this morning. Christa was already working hard to take receipt of our new Corkcicle tumblers as well as our new Unbreakable Piper and Dune Silipints. Then, no sooner did I turn around to find UPS making a delivery of our second shipment of Orvis goods. For us, it’s like Christmas morning when we get new packages at the store, we get so excited to see the new merchandise - this is especially true with Orvis since it’s our newest brand. I knew we might have a winner with Orvis when my son Patrick started stopping by the store everyday to check and see what might have been delivered.
Piper and Dune started as an on-line gift store in the fall of 2019. COVID-19 hit shortly afterwards. We waited until October of 2020 to open a pop-up shop in Bennett Square for the holidays. During conversations with our customers at the pop-up, they were asking us to open a permanent brick and mortar store in Southbury, so we did. On February 1 we opened a store that was twice that of our pop-up - this allowed us to expand our offerings. Our customers were asking us to carry more casual clothing - especially for Men, so we started to look for an anchor brand with roots in New England. We wanted to find a clothing line that was well made, yet affordable, and that fit our New England lifestyle.
Having shopped at Orvis’ headquarters in Manchester, Vermont, we knew the brand would be a great match for Piper and Dune. So, after a couple of months of pursuing Orvis, we are excited to announce that we are the only ORVIS dealer in Western Connecticut and on our website at PiperandDune.com. We now carry a collection of Men’s and Women’s ORVIS clothes - the new spring 2021 products have just arrived in our store. We have some Orvis fly rod kits, hats and other fishing accessories to get you and your dog ready for the spring season as well. As an Orvis dealer, we can order additional items we may not stock in our store as well.
We think you will enjoy wearing Orvis’ clothes as much as we do. Orvis designers go the extra mile- they’ve added all these little extra touches to make their products unique. For example, their gingham River Guide style shirt—it performs especially well in the heat. The cotton in the blend keeps you comfortable; the polyester wicks away moisture; and the spandex allows the shirt to move with you easily. Plus, they’ve added UPF 30 (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) protection from the sun. And whether you're hiking, fishing or traveling, there’s two button-through chest pockets and one secured vertical-entry zip pocket behind the left chest pocket that can handle the things you need close at hand. There’s a pencil hole on the left chest pocket that is perfect for parking your sunglasses, while the sunglasses microfiber
cleaner hidden in the hem/shirttail helps keep them clear. And you'll appreciate the hidden button-down collar that prevents annoying flyaways. Orvis fans joke that they can wear the shirt fly-fishing in the river and then straight to dinner if they wanted to. It dries very quickly and looks great.
Orvis is a well-known sporting goods outfitter. It was founded in 1856 by Charles F. Orvis in Manchester, Vermont. “For more than a century and a half, Orvis has loved the wild, explored it, found solace in it, reveled in it and protected it..” Their montra is to “GET WILD.” (Source: Orvis.com) We like the fact that Orvis commits 5% of their pre-tax profits to protecting nature too. To encourage you to give this iconic New England brand a try, we are offering our subscribers a 20% off coupon on one new regularly priced Orvis item - valid on-line or in-store when you use PROMO code: TRYORVIS, offer expires February 28, 2021, limit: one per customer. In-Store shoppers should simply convey the code to the sales associate.
