Spring Forward

Spring Forward

Like many of you, I have been feeling such joy and optimism for times to come recently... it is so refreshing. The proverbial cloud hovering over our heads might actually be lifting! What makes me feel this way? Well, I’m not exactly sure. The vaccine and the warmer weather might be what breaks the groundhog day spell we’ve been living under. It hit 50 degrees last week and it might as well have been summer! The flowers will be popping up soon; crocus, tulips and daffodils filling the sidewalks. In fact, Piper and Dune’s Rachael and Christa were commenting that we need to put flowers outside and an Adirondack chair in front of the store. No one is immune to some spring cheer. All of our new clothes are so bright and cheery, even bleak days outside feel sunny at the store.

I see the happiness in the way our customers stroll through the store. The shelves are filled with things that might remind us of the happy and warmer days ahead. Our fun boat paddles greet you as you enter the store, bright Corkcicle drinkware, the many “bee” products, our Orvis clothing and fishing accessories - and even the dog toys remind us of time spent playing outside with our four legged friends. Our One Log Fires, City Bonfires, anywhere fireplace and Silicone Silipints drinkware remind us to put picnics and happy hours on our calendars! I can’t wait to play our new outdoor yard games either. After a year indoors, just the thought of breathing in some fresh air without seeing my breath excites me.

Easter is early this year, Sunday April 4, be sure to shop Piper and Dune for lots of great Easter basket ideas, a new spring scarf or a soft bamboo toppers for a casual and comfortable new look. To me and my family this is a sign of rebirth, fresh starts, and spring weather is just ahead.

And, in case you are wondering when we change our clocks back, we “spring forward” the second Sunday in March on the 14th- just 16 more days ‘til spring, so be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour when you go to bed the night before :)

If you aren’t ready to jump on the optimism train just yet, you can start by surrounding yourself in the color yellow. I saw Christa put on our yellow raincoat last week. She was smiling and feeling great. Yellow is widely recognized as the happiest color, science attributes this to the psychological powers of the sun. I buy it 100%! Springtime and the color green can affect you similarly. Green is symbolic of everything coming back to life after a long winter slumber. Leaves are growing back on the trees, flower stems are reaching for the sky, the snow melts and everywhere there are new plants popping up.

So even if you are still feeling bah, maybe you can give yourself a boost with a bright green shirt! St. Patrick’s day is a great excuse to surround yourself with some green decor.

Inject your life with some color and as always - Explore What Excites You!
